
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th, 2000) is an American actress and singer. Her career spans more than 40 years. A torch singer renowned for her smooth, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 until 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River" which she recorded was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to the recording, London was nominated for an award called a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's career as an actor of 35 years began in the film industry in 1944. It included parts as the female lead in numerous westerns. She signed a recording deal with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the start of her professional career in music. Her final studio album in 1969, however, she was able to continue to make a name for herself as the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she played alongside her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her former husband Jack Webb.
